Interview tips

Interviews can be a daunting experience for many people, however a little preparation can have a big impact. By following these simple tips you can make sure that you present yourself in the best possible light because you only get one chance to make a good first impression

Do your research on the company or business you are interviewing with, a little bit of knowledge can go a long way

Be punctual; arriving late for an interview sends out a bad signal

Dress professionally – no runners or denim

Make eye contact with the interviewer and have a firm handshake

Know your CV – you will be asked about your previous jobs and qualifications so prepare answers beforehand

Don’t respond with 'Yes' or 'No' – give plenty of details and examples in your answer

Listen carefully to the questions asked to ensure you give a relevant answer

Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer questions – about the job or about the company

Be enthusiastic and show the interviewer that you want the job

Practice – have a friend or family member do a mock interview with you

Be honest, if you don't know the answer to a question don't be afraid to say so

Relax, whether you get the job or you don't get the job, try to learn from the experience
