CRITICAL INCIDENT STRESS MANAGEMENT POLICY

The provision of support to the horse racing industry across the different sectors when a critical incident occurs is seen as a priority by HRI to support any individual/group of staff, employees, or professionals within the industry. The Critical Incident Stress Management Policy is designed to address the initial needs and support of those affected within the industry by traumatic incidents during their employment in this diverse and highly populated industry. The policy is in keeping with our commitment to actively engaging in a continuum of well-being services for all personnel in the course of their work.

KEY PRINCIPLES

  • Safety First: Protect life and prevent further harm.
  • Clear Communication: Follow the agreed chain of communication.
  • Support and Care: Provide psychological first aid and access to wellbeing supports.
  • Review and Learn: Conduct post-incident reviews and update procedures.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Incident Lead/Manager: Coordinates immediate response and contact with emergency services.
  • Wellbeing Lead/HR: Arranges debrief and access to support.
  • All Staff: Follow instructions and cooperate with investigation or review.

REPORTING & FOLLOW-UP

  • Notify Horse Racing Ireland/Equuip if support or industry guidance is required.
  • Implement any learning outcomes.
