DIGNITY AT WORK POLICY

HRI is committed to a workplace where dignity and respect are supported and where each employee has the right to work in an atmosphere of respect, collaboration, openness, safety, and equality. The Irish Horse Racing & Breeding Industry Dignity at Work Policy promotes an environment that is free from bullying, all forms of harassment, or any inappropriate behaviour.

The purpose of the policy is to promote respect and dignity in the workplace and to create awareness around potential problems of inappropriate behaviour including bullying, harassment, and sexual harassment. The policy also provides guidance to employees who encounter inappropriate behaviour and guidelines to managers on how to resolve issues quickly, effectively, and informally where possible.

This policy applies to all individuals working or training within the Irish horse racing and breeding industry, including employees, contractors, and students.

KEY PRINCIPLES

  • Zero Tolerance: Bullying and harassment will not be accepted.
  • Respectful Communication: Everyone has a right to dignity at work.
  • Early Resolution: Address issues promptly and fairly.
  • Supportive Environment: Encourage reporting and protect confidentiality.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Employers/Managers: Implement the policy and handle complaints.
  • Staff: Treat others respectfully and report unacceptable behaviour.
  • Wellbeing/HR Contacts: Provide advice, mediation, and support.

REPORTING & FOLLOW-UP

  • Informal Stage: Seek resolution through discussion or mediation.
  • Formal Stage: Written complaint and investigation.
  • Records must be confidential and outcomes communicated fairly.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
